PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Richmond's Andrew Benford, Trevon Rainford of LaSalle and teammates Darius Law and Jason Roberts of Charlotte have been named to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) Men's Academic All-America Team for the 2008-09 season.
A record total of 327 student-athletes representing 107 Division I institutions made up the men's 2009 All-Academic team. To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track & Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either the NCAA Division I Indoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard or the NCAA Division I Outdoor regional or national qualifying standard in their respective event.
Law owns a 4.0 GPA as an accounting major and was named the 2009 A-10 Indoor Track & Field Most Outstanding Performer. The Raleigh, N.C., native led the 49ers to sweep of the A-10 titles in 2009, taking top performer honors at the indoor meet and claiming individual titles in the 200m, 400m and 4x400m races. He qualified for the NCAA Championships in both the 200 and 400m runs and was the only athlete at the NCAA East Region to advance to the championships in both events.
Law was named the 2009 A-10 Men's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
