UMass, Fordham On Top of Leader Board After Day One

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The University of Massachusetts men and Fordham University women are atop of the leaderboard after the first day of competition at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Swimming & Diving Championships, held at the Flickinger Center. The Minutemen lead with 80 points after two events, followed by St. Bonaventure University and Xavier tied at 64 points. Rounding out the scoring is La Salle (62), George Washington (56), Fordham (54) and St Louis (48). The Rams hold the lead on the women's side with 111 points after three events. They are followed by UMass (89), Richmond (88) and La Salle (84). Rounding out the women's scoring is St. Bonaventure (74), St. Louis (61), Rhode Island (60), Xavier (44), Duquesne (42) and George Washington (38). Richmond took first in the 200-yard medley relay, beating out Fordham by less than a second with a time of 1:40.11. The Spiders also claimed victory in the 800-yard freestyle relay, touching the wall in 7:19.65. Massachusetts' men picked up wins in 200-yard medley relay and the 800-yard freestyle relay. Massachusetts' earned first-place in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:30.18 and the 800-yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:35.92. UMass took first-place in the women's 1-meter dive with Molly Elkins earning a score of 251.80. St Louis freshman Christiana Eltiste finished in second-place with a score of 230.80 and Fordham junior Libby Dorger earned a score of 229.30 to round out the top three.
The Championships continue Thursday morning with trials at 10:30 a.m. and finals at 6:30 p.m.
