St. Bonaventure Men Claim A-10 Swimming & Diving Title

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After four days of competition, St. Bonaventure men earned the championship title at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championship in Geneva, Ohio. St. Bonaventure finished with a total of 688 points. Leading the way for the Bonnies was sophomore Vatslav Lets. Lets was named Most Outstanding Performer and finished first in the 200 backstroke, breaking the A-10 All-Time record with a time of 1:45.35. Freshman Viacheslav Shchukin placed first in the 100 freestyle, breaking the A-10 All-Time record, clocking in at 43.92, and was named Most Outstanding Rookie. Senior Jimmy Martin placed second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 44.15. The Most Outstanding Diver, Mike Murphy, took home the gold medal in the three meter dive with a score of 335.8. The 400 freestyle relay squad also took home first place, swimming a time of 2:57.47. Also standing out at today’s finals was Steve Sholdra of Fordham. Sholdra broke the A-10 meet record in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 15:24.66. Oliver Keegan of George Washington broke the A-10 All-Time record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:48.17 Runner-up Massachusetts finished with 613.5 points followed by Xavier (519), George Washington (397), Fordham (391.5), Saint Louis (386.5), and La Salle (362.5). 2013 A-10 Swimming & Diving Awards
