Sean Quigley And Rachel Papin Of La Salle Qualify For NCAA Championships
PHILADELPHIA, PA - The La Salle cross country teams both raced to fourth-place finishes at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, held at Lehigh University. Junior Sean Quigley (Braintree, MA/Archbishop Williams) finished second in the men's race, crossing the finish line at 30:06.1. Junior Rachel Papin (Philadelphia, PA/St. Hubert's) was the top Explorer finisher in the women's race, taking home fourth place with a 20:43.2 time. With only the top two teams earning automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, both the La Salle squads will have to wait to see if they earn at-large bids. Both Quigley and Papin earned spots at the Championships, based on their performances today. From the men's team, Quigley, senior John Butler (Mechanicsburg, PA/Cedar Cliff) and junior Joe Dare (Souderton, PA/Souderton) were named All-Region. Butler finished 11th (30:47.9) and Dare finished 19th (30:59.6). On the women's side, Papin was joined on the All-Region Team by sophomore Christa Plummer (Quakertown, PA/Palisades) and junior Karen Proulx (Attleboro, MA/Attleboro). Plummer finished 16th (31:10.4) and Proulx took home 24th place (21:28.4). Princeton won the women's team event and Georgetown topped the men's list. Princeton's Cack Ferrell was the women's top finisher at 19:58.3 and Georgetown's Fleet Hower won the men's race at 30:03.8. The NCAA Championships will be held on Monday, Nov. 21.
