Elko, Brockett, Caputo Earn A-10 Weekly Baseball Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple’s Matt Elko and Richmond’s Andrew Brockett have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. Rhode Island’s Tim Caputo was also honored as the Conference’s Rookie of the Week. The three student-athletes were recognized for games played May 7-13.

Elko had multiple hits in all three games against St. Bonaventure this past weekend, including three hits in the series opener and series finale. For the week, he finished with 13 total bases on eight hits and eight runs batted in. In Thursday’s slug fest, Elko went 3-for-4 and knocked in four of his eight RBI on the weekend.

Brockett claimed his team-best fourth save of the spring on May 11 at Rhode Island, before registering five shutout innings in the Spiders’ extra-innings victory over the Rams on May 12 to earn his first win of the season. The North Haven, Conn., native finished the week with 10 strikeouts in 7.1 innings of work without allowing a run.

Caputo Led the Rams with a .500 average on the week, recording a team-best six hits and three RBI in the series against Richmond. The Greenlawn, N.Y., native also scored a pair of runs and had one stolen base, while posting a .467 on-base percentage and .500 slugging percentage. Caputo was perfect in the field recording six assists and three putouts at shortstop. He currently ranks third in the conference with a .384 batting average in A-10 games and is tied for fourth in the league with 18 runs scored in league games.
