NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Rob McLam of Massachusetts and Kyle Mullen of Saint Joseph’s have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. Rhode Island’s Tim Caputo was also honored as the Conference’s Rookie of the Week. The student-athletes were recognized for games played during the week of May 14-20.

McLam hit a team-best .636 (7-for-11) in Massachusetts’ sweep of George Washington last weekend. The Terryville, Conn., native went a perfect 4-for-4 in Saturday’s (May 18) outing against the Colonials, helping to clinch the Minutemen’s berth into the Atlantic 10 Tournament with two runs scored and an RBI.

Mullen was outstanding on Friday, May 17, pitching the Hawks into their first Atlantic 10 Championship with a 5-1 complete game win over Xavier. The Berwyn, Pa., native allowed one unearned run on seven hits while matching his career-high with nine strikeouts. It was the third complete game of the season for Mullen and gave the Hawks an 8-0 record in his A-10 starts this spring. Mullen set a new SJU record for innings pitched in a season with 97.2. He also led the Atlantic 10 in strikeouts in conference games, and finished fourth in ERA in league play.

Caputo led the Rams with eight hits and six RBI in a 4-0-1 the week. The Greenlawn, N.Y., native also scored five runs and was a perfect 3-for-3 in stolen base attempts. He finished the regular season leading all A-10 freshman (and ranked seventh overall) with a .363 batting average in conference play. Caputo also finished third in runs scored (22) despite primarily hitting ninth in the order.
