PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Charlotte second baseman Corey Shaylor, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, has been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, it was announced on Wednesday by Collegiate Baseball.
Shaylor finished second on the team and third in the Conference with a .366 batting average, while his .440 on-base percentage ranked third on the team. A one-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, Shaylor had only 18 strikeouts in 183 total at-bats.
The Charlotte, N.C., native amassed 67 hits, 46 runs, 43 RBI and eight doubles while making 49 starts. A second-team All-Conference selection, Shaylor laced four triples and compiled a .968 fielding percentage.
Charlotte finished the year with an overall mark of 43-16 and became the first A-10 program since Virginia Tech in 1999-00 to win consecutive Atlantic 10 Championships.
