PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Second baseman Corey Shaylor and righthander Joe Yermal of Charlotte and Richmond designated hitter Billy Barber have been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America Team, it was announced on Wednesday by Collegiate Baseball.

Shaylor, the 2008 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, finished second on the team and third in the Conference with a .366 batting average, while his .440 on-base percentage ranked third on the team. A one-time A-10 Rookie of the Week selection, Shaylor had only 18 strikeouts in 183 total at-bats.

The Charlotte, N.C., native amassed 67 hits, 46 runs, 43 RBI and eight doubles while making 49 starts. A second-team All-Conference selection, Shaylor laced four triples and compiled a .968 fielding percentage.

A second-team All-Atlantic 10 honoree, Yermal posted a mark of 8-2 with a 4.39 earned run average while making 16 appearances, including 14 starts. The Bel Air, Md., resident led the 49ers with 84 innings pitched and struck out 44 while waking 20. Yermal notched a pair of complete games on the year and was 5-1 in Conference play.

Charlotte finished the year with an overall mark of 43-16 and became the first A-10 program since Virginia Tech in 1999-00 to win consecutive Atlantic 10 Championships.

Barber, who was bothered by a nagging thumb injury over the final two weeks of the season, still finished as the team leader with 13 home runs, 45 RBI and a .703 slugging percentage. He was named the National Player of the Week once and was a back-to-back A-10 Rookie of the Week selection after a torrid stretch that saw Barber hit .500 (12-for-24) with six homers, 16 RBI and a 1.375 slugging percentage over five game stretch in late March.

The designated hitter homered in five-consecutive games mid-season and finished third in the A-10 in long balls and second in slugging.
