KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island first baseman Jeff Cammans (Jamestown, R.I.) has been named the 2012 NCBWA District I Player of the Year, announced today by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America. He also finished second in the league in RBI (58), fourth in hits (77) and seventh in stolen bases (20). In the field, he posted a .993 fielding percentage, committing just three errors on 402 chances.
A two-time All-Conference and All-New England selection, Cammans ended his collegiate career with a .313 average, 231 hits, 134 runs and 131 RBI. He also swiped 63 bags and collected 56 extra-base hits.
