June 10, 2010
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - George Washington’s Tom Zebroski and Tim Boyce of Rhode Island, the Atlantic 10 Player and Pitcher of the Year, were among 11 student-athletes from the Conference selected in the three-day 2010 Major League Draft, which was held June 7-9. Nine A-10 schools had at least one player taken in the three-day, 50-round draft, with Dayton and George Washington leading the way with two selections apiece. Boyce was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 44th round (1332nd overall), while Zebroski was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 45th round (1349th overall). Boyce tossed a Division I leading 34 consecutive scoreless innings during the season, while Zebroski led the A-10 in batting average (.429), hits (103) and runs scored (75) en route to earning third-team All-America distinction. It marks the 11th consecutive year in which a GW standout has been selected. George Washington’s Eric Cantrell was the first A-10 player selected as the Kansas City Royals drafted the junior righthander with the 209th overall pick. Cantrell posted an 8-4 record with a league-leading 114 strikeouts this past season and garnered first-team All-Conference honors. Over the past five years, 63 student-athletes from the Atlantic 10 have been selected in the MLB Draft. Round (Overall Selection) - Name, School - Class, Position - Team
