NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) released its 2013 Preseason All-America Teams on Thursday and two standouts from the Atlantic 10 were recognized. VCU junior Bill Cullen garnered second team honors, while Rhode Island’s Jeff Roy collected a third team nod.

Cullen finished 2012 with a .347 batting average, 90 hits, 25 doubles, nine triples (second in the country) and hit five home runs. He was named to the All-CAA Third Team following the season.

Roy is the first-ever Ram to earn preseason All-America honors. The reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Roy finished his sophomore season ranked either first or second on the team – and was among the conference leaders – in every offensive category. He recorded a team-best 84 hits and 59 runs while leading the league with a .421 average in A-10 games (40-95). He also reached base in a conference best 41 consecutive games, in addition to leading the Rams with a .487 slugging percentage and a .443 on-base percentage.

The NCBWA is made up of writers, broadcasters and publicists of college baseball and was founded in 1962. This is the 13th annual Preseason All-America Team that the publication has released.
