A-10 SCOOP

>>Atlantic 10 teams have taken down nine ranked opponents so far this season. Most notable was Butler’s overtime win over No. 1 Indiana and the Bulldogs’ buzzer-beating victory against No. 8 Gonzaga. Temple’s victory of No. 3 Syracuse. Saint Joseph’s began with an overtime win over No. 20 Notre Dame. Butler also got a win over No. 9 North Carolina, VCU defeated No. 19 Memphis and Saint Louis beat No. 20 New Mexico. La Salle also beat No. 9 Butler Wednesday in a one-point affair and Richmond beat No. 19/16 VCU in an overtime game Thursday.

>>The U.S. Basketball Writers Association selected Butler’s Roosevelt Jones as its Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Sunday, Jan. 20. Jones  buzzer-beater gave the Bulldogs a 64-63 win over No. 8 Gonzaga on national TV with “College GameDay” on hand.

>>A-10 teams have played in non-conference overtime games 10 times, posting a 8-2 record. Double overtime is even better for Atlantic 10 teams. Twice a team has gone to double OT and won both times: Rhode Island over Auburn, 78-72 (11/25) and UR over William & Mary, 86-78 (11/28). There have been two overtime games in Conference play and they have been instant classics -- VCU’s 92-86 win last Thursday over Saint Joseph’s and Richmond’s 86-74 overtime win versus VCU.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Kendall Anthony scored 21 of his 26 points after halftime and Darien Brothers hit two huge 3-pointers Thursday night as Richmond ended No. 19 VCU's 13-game winning streak, 86-74 in overtime.

Brothers had 18 points and Cedrick Lindsay 13 as the Spiders (13-7, 3-2 Atlantic 10) won for only the second time in their last nine meetings with the Rams. Richmond hit 12 3-pointers with Anthony making five and Brothers four, including one with 1.5 seconds left in regulation to force the overtime, and another to clinch it with 1:35 to play in OT.

Juvonte Reddic had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Treveon Graham had 15 points, all after halftime, and 10 rebounds for VCU (16-4, 4-1), which never got its ball-hawking havoc defense unleashed against the steady Spiders.

Both teams finished with 13 turnovers and scored 17 off their takeaways.
