Reddic, Wyatt, Thomas Earn Weekly A-10 Men's Basketball Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Temple senior Khalif Wyatt and VCU junior Juvonte Reddic its Co-Men’s Basketball Players of the Week and Fordham freshman Mandell Thomas its Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for games played during the week of Jan. 28 – Feb. 3.

Wyatt averaged 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists in a 1-1 week for Temple.  He scored a career-high 34 points at Saint Joseph’s while making career best seven 3-pointers (7-of14, .500). The guard from Norristown, Pa. also had a career-high tying seven rebounds along with 19 points in the Owls’win over Richmond.  Wyatt has been the game-high scorer nine times this season and he is averaging 25.1 points per game over last seven outings.

Reddic recorded back-to-back double-doubles in VCU's two wins and now has four straight double-doubles and five in the past six games. He scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds in the win over Rhode Island, scoring 16 of his 18 in the second half to help the Rams secure a tough road win. He followed that with 11 points and 10 boards against Fordham, grabbing his 500th career rebound. A forward from Winston-Salem, N.C., Reddic grabbed 11 of his 22 rebounds last week off the offensive glass. He also was 15-of-18 at the line for the week, including a 6-for-6 performance at Rhode Island.

Thomas averaged 16.5 points per game in Fordham’s two games last week. He matched his season high with 17 points versus Saint Joseph’s, shooting 6-of-12 (.500) from the field while grabbing six rebounds versus the Hawks. A guard from Rochester, N.Y., Thomas followed that performance with a 16-point output at VCU. He was 6-of-13 from the field against the Rams and he tallied nine rebounds as well.

Butler’s Rotnei Clarke averaged 20 points in a split week for the Bulldogs, including a 5-ofr-8 performance from 3-point range in the win over Rhode Island … E. Victor Nickerson hit go-ahead free throws and scored 12 points in Charlotte’s narrow win against UMass … Charlotte freshman Ivan Benkovic had his first career double-digit scoring output with 10 points in the Niners’ win … Vee Sanford averaged 13.0 points in two games for Dayton last week, including tallying 16 versus Xavier … GW's Isaiah Armwood hit back-to-back three-pointers - his first two of the season and just the second and third of his career - that helped GW trim a 20-point deficit to 70-65 while leading all players with 17 points, nine rebounds and three blocks versus La Salle … Rhode Island freshman Jordan Hare was nearly perfect from the field in two games last week, hitting 5-of-5 for 10 points against VCU and 4-of-5 versus Butler to finish with eight points … Darien Brothers of Richmond scored 22 points in a loss to Temple, swishing 5-of-10 from 3-point range … UR freshman Alonzo Nelson Oboda had 13 points, eight rebounds and four blocks in the Spiders’ win over Xavier … Carl Jones averaged 17.5 points in a pair of Saint Joseph’s wins, scoring 19 at Fordham and tallying 16 points with four assists against Temple … Dwyane Evans was consistent for Saint Louis, hitting six field goals and three free throws for 15 points in two SLU wins last week … Travis Taylor scored 24 points for Xavier in the Musketeers loss at Richmond, with a 9-for-11 performance from the field.
