Nicholson, Wells Earn A-10 Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Atlantic 10 has selected St. Bonaventure senior forward Andrew Nicholson and Xavier freshman guard Dezmine Wells as its Men’s Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week respectively. The duo earned the awards Monday for games played during the week of Feb. 20-26. Nicholson averaged 27.5 points and 10.0 rebounds in 2-0 road sweep for the Bonnies, SBU’s biggest back-to-back road wins (42-point differential) since 1971. He shot 67.7percent from the floor (21-of-31), making three of his five 3-point attempts to go with four assists and three blocks on the week. The Mississauga, Ontario, native finished 10-of-14 from the field with a pair of threes and eight free throws for 30 point in the win at Fordham, before closing out the week with his 23rd career double-double (25 points, 11 boards) in the victory at Charlotte. Nicholson became just the third player in league history to earn three consecutive Player of the Week nods behind Xavier’s Brian Thornton and David West. Wells averaged 12.5 points last week, including scoring 19 points against Massachusetts in a split week for the Musketeers. A Raleigh, N.C., native, Wells also averaged 2.5 rebounds, including four boards versus Richmond. Wells also tallied 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games. He shot 42.1 (8-of-19) percent from the field, 50 percent(4-of-8) from 3-point range and 74.1 percent (5-of-7) at the line. Also named to the A-10 weekly honor roll were: DeMario Mayfield, Charlotte
