Evans, Christon Named A-10 Weekly Award Winners

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Louis junior Dwayne Evans its Men's Basketball Player of the Week and Xavier freshman Semaj Christon the A-10 Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for games played during the week of Feb. 25 - March 3. Evans averaged a double-double on the week with 21.5 points per game and 12 rebounds per game, recording double-doubles in victories against Saint Joseph's and George Washington. The forward from Bolingbrook, Ill., sank a career high nine free throws against Saint Joseph's to help account for his 21 points and he also equaled (then) career highs with three blocks and three steals. Evans posted another double-double at George Washington with 22 points and 12 boards, was 8-of-9 (.889) from the free-throw line against GW. He also recorded a career high four steals against the Colonials to lead the Billikens to their 11th straight win. Christon, who won the award for the sixth time this season, averaged 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals in a win over a top 20 team (Memphis) and a loss to UMass. He scored 13 points and dished out five assists in the win over the Tigers, grabbing five rebounds in the game as well. He followed that with a 17-point, six-assist performance against UMass. He was 7-of-8 at the line in that game. A guard from Cincinnati, Christon is the top freshman scorer in the Atlantic 10 at 15.0 points per game and second in assists at 4.6 assist per game. He leads XU in both categories.
A-10 Weekly Honor Roll Dayton's Devin Oliver posted a pair of double-doubles, averaging 17.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in two crucial wins over Charlotte and Richmond last week ... UMass freshman Trey Davis scored 12 points and dished out six assists versus XU, tallying 10 of the 12 points in 13 minutes of first-half action ... Xavier Munford of Rhode Island scored 30 points, on 12-of-23 from the field and 5-of-8 from beyond the arc for his second 30 point performance of the season ... Richmond's Cedrick Lindsay averaged 20.5 points in a split week for the Spiders, including scoring 19-of-22 at the line ... Eric Mosley of St. Bonaventure tallied 23 points, his fourth 20-plus scoring game in his last six outings, during which the Bonnies are 4-2 with both losses in overtime ... Saint Joseph's got 24 points, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, from senior Carl Jones in the Hawks win over Fordham on Saturday ... Khalif Wyatt tallied 24 points in a Temple win over Rhode Island and 20 points and seven assists in a non-conference victory against Detroit ... Troy Daniels registered 20 points, including sinking four 3-pointers and recording a perfect 6-for-6 day at the line in VCU's win over Butler.
