Henry, Wyatt and Christon Earn A-10 Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Charlotte’s Pierria Henry and Temple senior Khalif Wyatt Co-Players of the Week, while Xavier freshman Semaj Christon earns A-10 Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday for games played during the week of March 4 - March 10. Pierria had a pair of double-doubles in a 2-0 week for the 49ers. For the week, he averaged 15 points, 10.5 rebounds, three assists and 2.5 steals per game. In an overtime win over Duquesne, Pierria had 18 points, 15 rebounds, five assists, three steals and one assist. He capped the week with 12 points and 11 boards in a Charlotte victory over Saint Joseph’s. Wyatt averaged 24.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Owls. At Fordham, he recorded his first career double-double, scoring a game-high 19 points and grabbing a game and career-high 11 rebounds in the Owls’ 74-55 win. In an 84-76 win over No. 19/21 VCU, he led all scorers with 30 points – his fifth 30-pt game of the season. He also grabbed four rebounds dished four assists and had a game-high four steals. Christon earns Rookie of the Week accolades for the second consecutive week and the seventh time this season. Christon averaged 20.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 2.0 steals. In an overtime victory over No. 16/15 Saint Louis, Christon had 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists. He then scored 20 points and dished out five assists in a loss to Butler. Christon is the top freshman scorer in the Atlantic 10 at 15.4 points per game and second in assists at 4.7 assists each time out. A-10 Honor Roll Chris Gaston closed out his Fordham career with 1,672 points, good for eighth place on the Rams all-time list, while his nine rebounds brings his career rebounding total to 1,038, placing him third on the school’s career rebounding list … Fordham rookie Mandell Thomas scored 22 points in the Rams win at St. Bonaventure, including a big three-pointer with 24 seconds left to give Fordham a 74-70 lead as the Rams snapped a 36-game conference road losing streak … Saint Louis’ Dwayne Evans averaged a double-double on the week with 16.0 points and 13.0 rebounds per game … Isaiah Armwood of George Washington averaged 15.0 points, nine rebounds and had the game-winning tip dunk in overtime to help GW beat Dayton on Saturday and clinch a bid to the Atlantic 10 Championship … GW freshman Joe McDonald made 60 percent of his shots to average 11.0 points as well as 3.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals to help GW to a 1-1 week … Rotnei Clarke shared Butler’s scoring lead with 17 points, while the Bulldogs posted a road victory at Massachusetts on Thursday night. He then scored a game-high 21 points to lead Butler past Xavier 48 hours later. … Dayton’s Kevin Dillard averaged 19.0 points and 6.0 assists while shooting .933 (14-15) at the line … UD freshman Dyshawn Pierre averaged 16.5 points and 5.0 rebounds, and shot an eye-popping .800 from the field (12-15) and beyond the arc (4-5) on the week … Andre Malone of Rhode Island averaged 18.5 points and 5.0 rebounds for the Rams … La Salle’s Ramon Galloway had 29 points in the Explorer’s win over George Washington … VCU freshman Melvin Johnson averaged 12 points for VCU during the week, going 9-of-18 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the three-point line.
