Eight A-10 Student-Athletes To Play At Portsmouth Invitational
April 3, 2007 PHILADELPHIA, PA -2006-07 first-team All-Conference honorees Rashaun Freeman and Stephane Lasme of Massachusetts and Xavier's Justin Doellman are among eight student-athletes from the Atlantic 10 Conference selected to play in the 55th annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (P.I.T.), which will be held Apr. 4-7 in Portsmouth, VA. De'Angelo Alexander of Charlotte, Xavier's Justin Cage, Dustin Salisbery of Temple, George Washington's Carl Elliott and Ian Vouyoukas of Saint Louis were also among the 64 seniors selected. Lasme, the 2006-07 A-10 Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, led the A-10 and finished second nationally in blocks (5.09 bpg.), while his 168 blocked shots are the highest single-season total in Conference history. The Libreville, Gabon, native averaged a league-leading 9.5 rebounds per game, while his 17 double-digit rebounding performances was also tops in the A-10. Freeman was named to the first-team for the third consecutive year after averaging 14.7 ppg. and 8.3 rpg. while shooting .609 from the field, good for third in the Conference. Doellman led Xavier in scoring at 13.7 ppg. and in rebounding for the third straight year at 5.5 rpg. In addition to the scoring and rebounding, he led XU in blocks at 1.15 bpg. Doellman ends his career as the program's all-time in leader in games played at 132. Alexander and Elliott garnered third-team All-Conference honors in 2006-07, while Cage was named to the All-Defensive team for the third consecutive year. Salisbery finished seventh in the A-10 in scoring at 16.4 ppg. and Voyoukas was fifth in the league in blocks (1.73 bpg.) and sixth in rebounding (7.4 rpg.). The annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is a showcase for outstanding basketball players in their senior year of college and is the only tournament for college seniors to participate in and be evaluated by the National Basketball Association prior to the NBA's pre-draft camp in Orlando. The P.I.T. is the nation's oldest amateur basketball tournament. P.I.T. alumni include four-time NBA All-Star Ben Wallace (Virginia Union) of the Chicago Bulls and three-time NBA champion Derek Fisher (Arkansas Little-Rock), now with the Utah Jazz, and legendary NBA players like John Stockton, Scottie Pippen, Rick Barry, Earl "The Pearl" Monroe and Dave Cowens.
