Yale will play at Evansville on Friday night in a subregional game of the tournament.

Virginia Tech 69, Rhode Island 50

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Erick Green tied a career high with 25 points to lift Virginia Tech past Rhode Island 69-50 on Monday night.

Green scored 17 of his 25 in the first half, as the Hokies (2-0) jumped out to a 13-0 lead and never trailed. Rhode Island missed its first seven shots from the floor and didn't score in the first 5:08 of the game.

The Rams (0-2) cut the lead to 28-24 on a basket by Xavier Munford with 1:59 left in the first half. But the Hokies scored the last eight points of the half - six of those coming on two Green 3-pointers - to take a 36-24 lead at halftime. Rhode Island got no closer than 11 the rest of the game.

Green hit 8 of 15 from the floor, including four 3-pointers.

Munford led the Rams with 24 points.

Pittsburgh 86, Fordham 51

PITTSBURGH (AP) - J.J. Moore netted 20 points to lead Pittsburgh in a dominant 86-51 victory over Fordham Monday night in a nonconference affair.

With the win, Pittsburgh (2-0) advances to the semifinal round of the NIT preseason tournament.

Points were divvied up among several Panthers.

Steve Adams, the Preseason Big East Rookie of the Year, had an impressive game with 13 points and five rebounds. Trey Woodall was not far behind with 12 points.

Bryan Smith led the scoring effort for Fordham (0-2) with 11 points and three rebounds, and was 4 of 9 on 3-point tries. The Rams shot 40 percent (6 of 15) from beyond the arc.

But those 3-pointers could only do so much for the Rams.

The Panther's man-to-man defense slowed down the Fordham 3-pointers in the second half as Pittsburgh took control of the game with fast-paced drives down the court.
