NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Xavier's Tu Holloway was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, while La Salle's Tyreek Duren claimed Rookie of the Week honors in the first weekly accolades of the 2010-11 season as announced by the league office on Monday.

Holloway scored a game-high 25 points, one shy of his career-high set in the 2010 NCAA Regional Semifinal against Kansas State, as he led Xavier from an 11-point second half deficit to defeat Western Michigan 68-65 in the season opener for both teams.

The junior guard shot 54 percent from the floor including 44 percent from long range, while grabbing five rebounds and dishing out three assists to extend the Musketeers' home winning streak to 25 games.

Holloway had a big second half, scoring 20 of his 25 points after intermission on the strength of 6-of-7 shooting from the field. The Hempstead, N.Y., native tied a career-high in made three pointers with four, including one with a little over a minute left in a tied game. After Western Michigan hit a three as possession ran out to even the score at 61, Holloway responded with his own three to give XU the lead for good.

Duren scored eight points and registered nine assists in his collegiate debut to help La Salle to an 82-71 victory over Columbia. The nine assists tied the school record for the most assists by an Explorer in his collegiate debut as Julian Blanks had nine helpers in a 73-64 win over Mount St. Mary's on November 20, 1999.

The freshman guard also collected two rebounds and two steals in 31 minutes of action in helping the Explorers rally from a 12-point second half deficit.

Xavier returns to action Tuesday, November 16 at 7:00 p.m. (EST) when the Musketeers welcome IPFW to the Cintas Center. La Salle hits the road to face Baylor on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. in a game shown live on ESPN as part of ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon.
