Clarke, Christon Earn Weekly Men's Basketball Honors

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference named Butler senior Rotnei Clarke its men's Basketball Player of the Week and Xavier freshman Semaj Christon its Rookie of the Week Monday. The awards are for games played during the week of Nov. 19-25. Clarke earned All-Tournament honors, while leading Butler to a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Maui Invitational. He hit the most dramatic shot of the tournament with a 3-point field goal at the buzzer to lift Butler past Marquette, 72-71, in the opening round and cap off a 20-point performance. The guard from Verdigris, Okla., then shared team scoring honors with 17 points in the Bulldogs' upset of No. 9 North Carolina. Clarke finished his tournament run with a career-high 27 points in the championship game against Illinois. He averaged 5.0 rebounds for the week, including a career-high six against Marquette. Christon earned All-Tournament honors after he led Xavier in both scoring and assists in all three games of the DIRECTV Classic. Christon averaged 19.0 points and 6.3 assists in leading the Musketeers to a 2-1 week. He opened the week with 18 points and six assists in a narrow loss to Pacific. The guard from Cincinnati, Ohio, then scored a career-high 23 points versus Drexel, tallying six assists and three rebounds. He was 10-of-14 from the field (.714) and a perfect 3-of-3 at the line against the Dragons. His most complete game of the week came in the win over Drake. He scored 16 points, dished out seven assists and pulled down six rebounds in the four-point victory. A-10 Weekly Honor Roll Butler freshman Kellen Dunham shared team scoring honors with Clarke, tallying 17 in the win over No. 9 North Carolina ... Charlotte's Pierria Henry averaged 8.3 points and 11 steals in keying the 49ers to a Great Alaska Shootout title, including a 12-point, 11-rebound, seven assist performance against Texas State ... Freshman Denzel Ingram from Charlotte tallied 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting against Texas State ... Kevin Dillard scored 20 points, shooting 75 percent from the field in a win over Manhattan ... Dayton freshman Dyshawn Pierre grabbed seven rebounds to go with six points against Manhattan ... Quevyn Winters had a 19-point performance and an 18-point performance to lead Duquesne to a 2-1 week ... Fordham's Brendan Frazier averaged 20.5 points and 7.0 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Rams, including a nearly perfect (10-of-11, .909) performance at the line ...Frazier's freshman teammate Jeff Short scored 12 points in the win over Penn and was a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc in a 17-point effort against Fairfield ... George Washington's Isaiah Armwood scored a consistent 12 points in each of the Colonials games last week, tallying a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) with five blocks in a win over Hofstra ... Freshman Kevin Larsen had 14 points in that GW win over Hofstra ... Tyreek Duren pushed La Salle to a 77-74 overtime win over Villanova with 23 points, including a game-tying three in regulation and the game-winning basket late in overtime ... Rhode Island got its first win on the back of Xavier Munford, who scored 33 points, including 10 in overtime, to push the Rams past Auburn ... Freshman Jordan Hare registered 10 blocks last week for Rhody, including seven 9along with 16 rebounds) against Loyola (Md.) ... Kendall Anthony averaged 19.5 points, including a career-high 24 in Richmond's win over Wofford ... Demitrius Conger led St. Bonaventure 18 points and 10 rebounds for his ninth career double-double in Bona's win over Little Three rival Niagara ... Saint Joseph's Carl Jones came off the bench to score 24 points on 8-of-11 shooting (.727) against Harvard ... Dwayne Evans scored 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting to lift Saint Louis over Texas A&M and average 14.3 points last week ... Temple's Khalif Wyatt tallied 18 points and seven assists in the Owls' only game of the week, a win over Delaware ... VCU's Treveon Graham averaged 18 points, including a 26-point, five-rebound effort in an upset win over No. 19 Memphis.
