NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Richmond junior Derrick Williams its men's basketball Player of the Week and Xavier freshman Semaj Christon its Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday for games played during the week of Nov. 26 - Dec. 2.

Williams registered double-doubles in Richmond wins over William & Mary and Wake Forest last week. The Harlem, N.Y. native scored a career-high 26 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a two-point win over Wake Forest. He was 6-of-8 (.750) from the field and 13-of-15 (.867)at the line for the Spiders. A forward, Williams scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds earlier in the week against the Tribe. He was 5-of-7 (.714) from the field and a nearly perfect 6-of-7 (.857) at the line against William & Mary. He shot and made a single 3-pointer in each game and he also had two assists in each game.

Christon, who earned the award for the second straight week, had a tremendous outing in his first true road game - a 63-57 win at Purdue. The guard had a career-high 25 points on 8-of-12 from the field and 8-of-8 from the free throw line to go with four assists, four rebounds and three steals. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Christon and was the only player on either team to play all 40 minutes. He is leading Xavier with 16.0 points and 6.2 assists per game as a freshman.

Butler senior Rotnei Clarke averaged 17 points in wins over Hanover and Ball State last week ... Chris Braswell led Charlotte to the best start in school history (7-0) with 18 points against East Carolina ... Braswell's freshman teammate Willie Clayton scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in his first career double-double versus the Pirates ... Dayton's Josh Benson averaged 14.5 points, including a near double-double of 17 points and nine rebounds in two games last week ... Freshman Devon Scott did get double-digit rebounds for the Flyers, pulling down 10 rebounds in 17 minutes against Northern Illinois ... Kadeem Pantophlet shot .600 from the field and was perfect at the line in averaging 12.5 points and seven rebounds in a pair of Duquesne wins ...Freshman Quevyn Winters hit a 3-pointer with 31 seconds left to give Duquesne a lead against Appalachian State, and then pulled down a critical defensive rebound to secure the win ... Isaiah Armwood had a busy week, tallying a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double for George Washington versus Mount St. Mary's and also had a career-high 23 in a win over Manhattan ... GW freshman Kevin Larsen had two near double-doubles in the Colonials three games last week, scoring 10 points versus the Mount and 12 against JMU with nine rebounds in each game ... Tyreek Duren was perfect from the field (6-of-6), scoring 20 points with six assists to lead La Salle to a win over Rider in the Explorers' only game last week ...Chaz Williams scored 23 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out six assists in UMass' win over Siena, followed by an 11-point, 10-assists double-double versus Miami ... Rhode Island's Xavier Munford had a 20/20 week, scoring 24 points in a loss to George Mason followed by 25 in a win over Vermont ... Freshman Mike Aaman scored 15 points, including a perfect 5-of-5 at the line in Rhody's win over Vermont ... Jordair Jett averaged 12.5 points and 6.5 assists for Saint Louis, tallying three steals Sunday in an emotional win for the Billikens ... Khalif Wyatt had a strong performance in Temple's win over Wagner, scoring 26 points on 9-of-16 shooting and 3-of-5 beyond the arc ... TU freshman Quenton DeCosey played a total of 20 minutes in the Owls' two games last week, tallying 14 points in that short span, including a career-high eight points and three rebounds versus Buffalo ... Juvonte Reddic averaged 18.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games for VCU, shooting .682 from the field and colleting four steals ... Freshman Melvin Johnson scored 11 points for VCU versus Belmont after missing the previous game from an injury.
