ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. -- After a 15-year run as head golf coach at St. Bonaventure, Steve Campbell will step down from his position following next weekend's Atlantic 10 Championships, announced Friday by the athletic department.
Campbell is in his 20th year at St. Bonaventure as an administrator and will remain at his post of Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations.
"Steve exemplifies everything that's good with collegiate athletics and what it represents," said Director of Athletics Steve Watson. "Coach Campbell is more than a coach to his student-athletes and that's evident in the way they speak about him. The golf program is in an amazing place right now thanks to his dedication and hard work."
"The appreciation I have for the athletic administration both past and present is endless. It goes without saying the opportunity afforded to me the past 15 years have been very rewarding and will be forever grateful to those individuals for allowing me to serve in two capacities (Administrator & Coach) for so many years," Campbell said. "The interactions and friendships with the many student-athletes and fellow coaches over the years has been an outstanding experience that I will cherish forever. The program is in a very good place right now thanks to the tremendous dedication, hard work and support from an outstanding group of student-athletes and alumni, as well as the many supporters of the program whom I owe a great deal of gratitude."
In all, Campbell has guided the Bonnies to 24 tournament titles and a combined 1,271-1,027-39 record when calculating head-to-head competition. Campbell has also been the host of the Leo Keenan Invitational 15 of the tournament's 19-year existence at Bartlett Country Club. Over that span, Campbell has helped St. Bonaventure claim its tournament title nine times, including the last three years.
Campbell's finest coaching days have come over the past three seasons as he's led the Brown and White to 10 invitational championships over that span. Nearly half of those wins came in 2006-07 as Campbell led the Bonnies to four tournament wins and a program-best third place finish at the A-10 Championships. The 2002 Conference Coach of the Year, Campbell led the Brown and White to three victories this past fall.

The Olean, N.Y. native's influence was evident not only on the tee-box or putting green, but in the classroom, as well. Under his direction, three different student-athletes earned Academic All-American honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America.
Campbell will take the course one last time with the Brown and White on May 2-4 at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Winter Garden, Fla.
