SORRENTO, Fla. - The Charlotte 49ers fired a two-over par 286 in the final round of the NCAA Regional at Red Tail G.C. in Sorrento, Fla. to fall out of contention for one of the top five spots that advance to the NCAA Championships. Junior all-America Corey Nagy, however, was able to advance as as individual.
Nagy shot a two-under par 69 to finish with a three-day total of nine-under par, 204, to place fourth overall in the individual standings. He was the top finisher that was not on one of the five advancing teams, earning an individual spot at the NCAA Championships.
Host Central Florida won the event at 34-under par. Top-ranked Georgia rallied into a tie for second-place with Arizona and South Carolina at 23-under par while Iowa grabbed the fifth spot at 15-under par.
Charlotte started the final round in fourth-place at 10-under par but were not able to break par on the final day. The 49ers finished their fifth straight NCAA regional in a tie for 7th place at eight-under par. Charlotte had advanced to the NCAA Championship in each of the last three years.
Nagy led the 49ers with a two-under par round of 69, the lone 49er to break par. Junior Stefan Wiedergruen shot even-par to tie for sixth, overall, at seven-under par. Freshman Paul Ferrier shot one-over par 72 and freshman Tyler Mitchell shot three-over par. Sophomore Will Golden added a round of seven-over par.
