NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—The Atlantic 10 placed three golfers on the PING Division I All-Region team it was announced Friday. George Washington’s Andres Pumariega, Rhode Island’s Branden Chicorka and Xavier’s Sebastian MacLean all were named to the prestigious team.

All three were also on the 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Conference team.

GW’s Team MVP the past two seasons, Pumariega earned a spot on the prestigious all-region team after a standout final season with the Colonials, highlighted by All-Conference status after leading the Colonials to their first-ever A-10 Championship in April. Pumariega helped the sixth-seeded Colonials to the conference crown and a school-record 36-hole score of 8-under par 568 after he placed second in the field of 55 golfers. He fired a two-round total of 5-under par 139 to finish just one stroke behind individual champion Raoul Menard of Charlotte, while his second-round 5-under 67 was the lowest round of the Championship.

Chicorka becomes the first Rhody golfer to earn the honor since 2009, when Taylor Fontaine and Mark Stevens were both recognized for their play. Chicorka led the Rams to a first place finish at the Century Intercollegiate last month, turning in the best individual performance with a 143 (72-71) overall. He also had a trio of second-place finishes - at the Hartford Hawk Invitational, the Connecticut Cup and the Rhody Invitational.

MacLean recently finished tied for second at the 2012 NCAA Ann Arbor Regional with a 7-under-par 206 (68-70-68). He was also named to the 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team following a third place finish at the league championship. MacLean led the Musketeers this season with a 71.38 scoring average and was named the A-10 Player of the Week three times this season.
