CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte 49ers Director of Athletics Judy Rose today announced that Adam Pry has been named the 49ers' head men's golf coach. Pry, the 2009 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, served as interim head coach during the spring 2009 semester. He led the 49ers to the Atlantic 10 Championship and a fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

"After completing a national search, I am convinced that we have the perfect candidate for the golf coach position right in our midst," said Rose. "Adam Pry served as Interim Coach this season and did an excellent job during a somewhat difficult time. Losing a head coach mid-year is tough and Adam stepped right in and made the transition much smoother for our student-athletes. More importantly he provided the leadership that had the team peaking at just the right time -- earning our team a trip to the NCAA Tournament."

"It's been my dream to be head coach of a Division I golf team and its obviously exciting to have that dream realized," said Pry. "What makes it even better is that I get to do it at a place I feel so strongly about. What UNC Charlotte is as a university, what the Charlotte athletic department represents and the principles which Charlotte's golf team has been built upon make this opportunity so fantastic."

Pry has been with the 49ers for the past two years, serving as an assistant to head coach Jamie Green for a year and a half before taking over as interim head coach in December of 2008. As interim head coach, Pry oversaw the 49ers late-season rally that produced an 11-stroke victory at the A-10 Championship and a 7th-place finish at the NCAA Southeast Regional. Although the 49ers did not advance to the NCAA Championship, A-10 medalist Corey Nagy did qualify as an individual.

As an assistant coach, Pry helped guide the 49ers to a consensus #1 ranking in the national polls in the fall of 2007 and to a tie for 8th-place at the 2008 NCAA Championships. For his efforts he was named a finalist for the 2008 Jan Strickland Assistant Coach of the Year Award.

"I'd like to thank the Chancellor (Dr. Phil Dubois), Judy Rose, (Senior Assoc. A.D.) Darin Spease and everybody at Charlotte for the opportunity I've had this semester and now the chance to continue to lead the program. I'm truly honored to have this opportunity. I'd also like to thank Jamie Green for the opportunity to work with him and learn from him. I look forward to the chance to run the program and promote the values, principles and ideals that Charlotte golf has become known for."

Pry, a 2004 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan, was a graduate assistant at Miami University of Ohio (2005-07) and an assistant coach at Oglethorpe University (2004-05). He earned his master's degree from Miami of Ohio in 2007. He was a two-time team captain at Ohio Wesleyan, where he competed at four NCAA National Championships.
