NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Xavier’s Korey Ward and St. Bonaventure’s Josh Stauffer were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Wednesday. Both golfers were recognized for all events played through Sep. 11.

Ward won his first collegiate individual title with a one-stroke victory in Xavier's first event of the fall season, the Marshall Invitational, Sep 10-11. The West Chester, Ohio, native earned medalist honors with a three-round total of 9-under-par 204 (69-66-69) at the Guyan Golf and Country Club in Huntington, W.Va. Xavier finished in a tie for seventh place as a team with a three-round total of 867 (289-288-290).

Stauffer earned a pair of top-15 finishes in his first two collegiate events, placing third at the Little Three Invitational on Sep. 5 and 14th among 79 golfers at the Navy Fall Classic, Sep. 8-9. The Bradford, Pa., native began his college career with a two-round 149 (74-75) at the par-71, 7,001-yard layout Harvest Hill Golf Club in Orchard Park, N.Y., before firing 74-72-146 at the U.S. Naval Academy Golf Course to lead the Bonnies to their second-place finish.
