NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple’s Brandon Matthews swept the Atlantic 10 Conference weekly golf awards, as the DuPont, Pa., native was named both Player and Rookie of the Week, the A-10 announced on Wednesday. Matthews was honored for his performance during the week of Sept. 19-25.

Matthews captured individual medalist honors at the Hartford Hawks Invitational at the Bull’s Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn., after eagling the first hole of a sudden death playoff to defeat Sacred Heart's Peter Ballo and Iona's Dylan Newman. Matthews shot a 2-under par 214 (74-68-72) over the 54 holes to help the Owls secure a sixth place finish among the 16 teams.

2013 A-10 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
For the second-straight year, the 13-team Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Championship will be held April 26-28 at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla. The par 72 course will play at 7,055 yards for the three-day tournament.
