NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Butler’s Andrew Wegeng was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Player of the Week, while St. Bonaventure’s Josh Stauffer collected his second Rookie of the Week citation this season, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Wegeng won the Butler Fall Invitational for the second consecutive year, finishing with a 36-hole total of 2-under-par 138. He was the lone player in the tournament field to finish under par. Wegeng shot a tournament-best 66 in the opening round, missing Butler’s par 70 record by a single stroke (he missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole). The Bulldog senior, who finished three strokes ahead of runner-up Cole Adams of IUPUI, led the tournament in par four scoring (-2), and he tied for second in par five scoring (-1). He also tied for second in total birdies (6). Butler captured the team championship at the six-team event, after compiling a two-day total of 570 and finishing 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Green Bay.

Stauffer collected his fourth top-10 finish and fifth top-15 finish this fall, as the Bradford, Pa., native placed fourth among the 79 participants at the Binghamton University Fall Invitational. Stauffer carded a 1-over par 145 (72-73) during the 36-hole event, held at The Links at Hiawatha Landing in Apalachin, N.Y.

2013 A-10 GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP
For the second-straight year, the 13-team Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Championship will be held April 26-28 at Heron Bay Golf Club in Coral Springs, Fla. The par 72 course will play at 7,055 yards for the three-day tournament.
