NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Butler’s Andrew Wegeng was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Golf Player of the Week, while St. Bonaventure’s Josh Stauffer collected his second Rookie of the Week citation this season, the league office announced on Wednesday. Wegeng won the Butler Fall Invitational for the second consecutive year, finishing with a 36-hole total of 2-under-par 138. He was the lone player in the tournament field to finish under par. Wegeng shot a tournament-best 66 in the opening round, missing Butler’s par 70 record by a single stroke (he missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole). He also tied for second in total birdies (6). Butler captured the team championship at the six-team event, after compiling a two-day total of 570 and finishing 12 strokes ahead of runner-up Green Bay. Stauffer collected his fourth top-10 finish and fifth top-15 finish this fall, as the Bradford, Pa., native placed fourth among the 79 participants at the Binghamton University Fall Invitational.
