NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Charlotte’s Aidan Kirkbride and Dayton’s Daniel Berko have been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. Both were honored for games played during the opening weekend of the 2012 season, Aug. 24-26.

Kirkbride, a junior midfielder, was recognized for his performance in the 49ers come-from-behind 2-1 double overtime win over Denver on Aug. 25. Kirkbride scored both of Charlotte’s goals in the victory. He scored the game-tying goal with four seconds left in regulation, before tallying the game-winner in the 104th minute.

Berko showed up in a big way for the Flyers, registering his first career hat trick in Dayton's 4-3 victory over SEC foe Kentucky on Aug. 26, which included his first collegiate goal and the game-winning tally. The Kumasi, Ghana native helped Dayton open the season 2-0 for the first time since 2008, as the Flyers also defeated Big Ten opponent Ohio State, 3-2, on Aug. 24. Berko, a senior midfielder, was also named the Atlantic 10’s Player of the Week.
