NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Xavier’s Luke Spencer and Dayton’s Chris Froschauer were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, the league office announced on Monday. Spencer and Froschauer were recognized for games played during the final week of the regular season, Oct. 29 – Nov. 4.

Spencer scored twice this weekend and added three assists to pace an 11-goal attack against Rhode Island and Massachusetts. The local Cincinnati product scored one goal in each of the victories for the Musketeers. He had the game-winning goal and two assists against Rhode Island on Friday (Nov. 2). He finished the regular season tied for the league lead with 13 goals, six assists and 32 points. He has four game-winning goals on the year, the second most in the league. He was also chosen as the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Player of the Week. It’s his first of the kind and third national team he has been named to this season.

Froschauer posted two consecutive shutouts as he helped the University of Dayton men’s soccer team clinch its first berth in the A-10 Championship since 2009. The Union, Ky., native faced 34 shots and recorded eight saves in the two outings against Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Froschauer is the only freshman goalkeeper in the nation to play every minute of every game this season.

The 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference championship begins this Thursday, Nov. 8 at 11:00 a.m. ET, as #2 Saint Louis takes on #7 La Salle, followed by game two at 2:00 p.m., as #3 Xavier squares off with #6 Dayton. Fourth-seeded VCU and #5 Temple take the pitch at 5:00 p.m.; and #1 Charlotte and #8 Duquesne will close out quarterfinal round action at 8:00 p.m.

The two semifinal contests will be played on Friday, Nov. 9 at 5:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., while the league championship is set to air nationally on CBS Sports Network on Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4:00 p.m.
