#4 VCU Upends Top-Seeded Charlotte, 1-0

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Fourth-seeded VCU scored the only goal it would need in the 79th minute to knock-off top-seeded Charlotte, 1-0, in the semifinals of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship, Friday night at Transamerica Field. VCU (12-2-5), in its first year in the A-10, advances to Sunday’s final against second-seeded Saint Louis (15-4). The two teams will take the pitch at 4:00 p.m. ET. The game will be broadcast nationally on CBS Sports Network. Charlotte concludes it Championship run with a 14-3-2 overall mark. The 49ers, along with Xavier (13-2-5), will now wait for the NCAA’s tournament announcement on Monday, Nov. 12 at 5:30 p.m. via its website – NCAA.com. VCU’s lone goal came during at the 78:59-minute mark, as sophomore Mario Herrera Meraz placed a ball into the upper right corner of the net off a ball from senior Joseph Haboush.
