ST. LOUIS – The Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship continued to heat up during the opening round, as fifth-seeded La Salle recorded the second upset of the day, defeating fourth-seeded Temple, 2-0, Thursday night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the campus of Saint Louis University.

La Salle (7-8-4) now advances to Friday’s semifinal round and will take on #2 George Washington. The two teams will take the pitch following the #1 Fordham / #6 Xavier contest, which is slated for a 5:00PM CT kickoff. With the loss, Temple falls to 9-10-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, La Salle scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal in the 67th minute off a penalty kick from sophomore midfielder Jason Plumhoff.

The Explorers would add an insurance goal with just over four minutes remaining in regulation, as rookie forward Rob Friskey blasted the ball into the left side of the net, unassisted, for his second tally of the season.

Temple outshot La Salle in the contest, 25-14, while La Salle held the advantage on corners, 8-5.

The Conference championship will continue throughout the weekend at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the campus of Saint Louis University. The league championship will be played on Sunday, November 13 at 1:00PM CT.
