2012 Capital One Academic All-America Release
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Xavier's Sean Ryan and Duquesne's Joshua Patterson were named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Second Team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Ryan, who also earned a spot on the same team last season, becomes the first Xavier athlete to repeat as a Capital One Academic All-American since Kristen Clary (women’s tennis) achieved the feat in 2005 and 2006.
The Hilliard, Ohio native and outside back for the nationally-ranked Musketeers graduated with an impressive 3.91 GPA with a dual degree in economics and finance. He is currently pursuing his masters of business administration at XU. Earlier this year Ryan was named to his third-consecutive Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team and his second CoSIDA All-Academic District Team.
Ryan, who has served as captain for three-straight seasons, has been vital to the Musketeers’ success. In the past three years Xavier has amassed 36 victories, won two Atlantic 10 Championships, appeared in three NCAA Tournaments and captured the first NCAA win this past season. He has started 76 of 79 matches played in his four-year career and was on the field for 6745 minutes played in those games. He found the back of the net once and added four assists.
Patterson, a 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Conference selection, led the Dukes in scoring with 26 points on 11 goals and four assists. He has a 3.71 cumulative grade point average as a sports marketing major.
