Charlotte, N.C. - Senior defender Charles Rodriguez, who plays for the 49ers' College Cup finalist men's soccer team, was just named first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American. Rodriguez is the third player in school history to earn first-team NSCAA All-American honors. Mac Cozier (1994) and Jon Busch (1996) were also first-team All-Americans.
Rodriguez has had quite a week. First, he learned that he was invited to the adidas MLS Player Combine. Then, he played an integral role in helping the 49ers reach the National Championship game for the first time in school history.
This season, Rodriguez, who also earned first-team All-Atlantic 10 honors, has anchored a 49ers defense that has nine shutouts and limited 20 foes to a goal or less this season. Charlotte's defense has only allowed three goals in 490 minutes of NCAA Tournament action. Rodriguez has also scored a goal and recorded an assist this season. Rodriguez was also just named NSCAA first-team All-Mid-Atlantic region as well.
