Charlotte, N.C. – Charlotte forward Giuseppe Gentile has been named Soccer America’s National Freshman of the Year. He is the first 49ers to earn the honor. Gentile was also named first-team Soccer America freshman All-American. Then, a couple of weeks ago, he earned first-team College Soccer News Freshman All-American honor.
This season, Gentile played a major role in helping the 49ers reach the College Cup finals for the first time in school history.
Gentile, who was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, led the 49ers in goals with 10 and game-winning goals with five. He scored three goals in the NCAA Tournament including the game-winning goal against Akron and the game-tying goals against Furman and Connecticut. He recorded his first career hat trick with three goals in the 49ers victory over St. Bonaventure.
This past season, Gentile was named second-team All-Atlantic 10 as well as earning A-10 All-Rookie team honors. He was named TopDrawerSoccer.com and College Soccer News National Player of the Week, October 16. He earned Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honors as well as being named to Soccer America’s National Team of the Week as well this season.
