There is a nationally televised game scheduled for Monday (DUQ @ UD, 9 pm) on CBS Sports Network. WHAT'S ON TAP MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18 WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20 A-10 SCOOP - For the 13th consecutive week Dayton is ranked in both the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and the USA Today Coaches Poll. Dayton also remains one of five teams with just one loss in NCAA Division I Women's Basketball. The others are: Baylor, Connecticut, Duke and Notre Dame. -Duquesne leads the all-time series 18-14, despite Dayton owning a winning record (10-7) at UD Arena. The last time these two teams met UD picked up a 74-69 overtime victory at the A.J. Palumbo Center on Feb. 25, 2012 -During halftime of tonight's women's basketball contest between Dayton and Duquesne on CBS Sports Network, the station will air a story highlighting the stunning turnaround of the Fordham women's basketball program. Complete with coach and player interviews, the piece will detail the rise of a Fordham program that set an NCAA record with 29 losses just five years ago and has now elevated to a spot of national prominence.
-Chatilla van Grinsven of Saint Joseph's and La Salle's Chanel Harrison have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Co-Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Fordham's Samantha Clark was also honored as the A-10's Rookie of the Week. The three student-athletes were recognized for games played during the week of Feb. 11-17. -Charlotte (20-4, 9-1 A-10) attained the 20-win plateau for the 13th time in program history and first since 2010-11 when it won a school-record 27 on its way to reaching the WNIT Semifinals. -Outscoring Temple 10-2 in overtime, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team snapped its 13-game losing streak to the Owls with a 49-41 win Sunday afternoon at Hagan Arena. Saint Joseph's got a combined 36 points from senior Ashley Prim, redshirt sophomore Natasha Cloud and redshirt senior Chatilla van Grinsven as the Hawks improved to 18-6 overall and 9-1 in the Atlantic 10. -Xavier (9-15, 3-7 A-10) jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, leading wire-to-wire in a 59-40 win over Rhode Island (5-19, 0-9 A-10), Sunday in Atlantic 10 action on senior day at Cintas Center. This marks the 13th straight loss and seventh consecutive in the series for Rhode Island. -VCU (10-15, 3-7 A-10) will travel to cross-town rival Richmond (13-13, 3-7 A-10) on Wednesday as the two teams play for the first time as members of the A-10. -Richmond's Rachael Bilney became the 19th Spider to notch 1,000 points as Richmond defeated UMass, 81-63, Sunday. Bilney also recorded two three-point shots to move into sole possession of third-place on Richmond's all-time list with 186 career bombs. SUNDAY (2/17) RESULTS SAINT JOSEPH'S 49, TEMPLE 41 The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team scored 10 points in overtime and snapped its 13-game losing streak to Temple with a 49-41 win Sunday afternoon at Hagan Arena. Saint Joseph's got a combined 36 points from senior Ashley Prim, redshirt sophomore Natasha Cloud and redshirt senior Chatilla van Grinsven as the Hawks improved to 18-6 overall and 9-1 in the Atlantic 10. Leading by one with under 20 seconds to play, Tyonna Williams hit the first of two free throws, but missed the backend, sending the game to overtime. In the extra frame, a jumper by Victoria Macaulay gave Temple a 41-39 lead at 4:18. The Owls didn't score again, however and SJU reeled off 10 straight points doe the win. Prim and Cloud each had 13 points apiece and van Grinsven posted her 11th double-double of the season, scoring 10 points to go with 13 rebounds. At the other end, Natasha Thames had a game-high 15 points and 14 rebounds for Temple. VCU 69, LA SALLE 50 The Rams(10-15, 3-7 A-10) erupted for a 23-2 run midway through the first half and put the game out of reach early. Four different VCU players finished with 11 points apiece, including three freshman, while all 10 Rams who appeared in the game scored. Shanel Harris had a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double for the Explorers (8-17, 4-6 A-10) Butler (15-10, 6-4) opened the second half with an 11-2 run that opened up the game XAVIER 59, RHODE ISLAND 40 | XAVIER HIGHLIGHTS/POSTGAME Xavier (9-15, 3-7 A-10) handed Rhody (5-19, 0-9 A-10) its seventh consecutive loss in the series. Seniors Jessica Pachko and Amber Gray topped the stat sheet for XU, netting 12 and 11 points, respectively. Gray added a game-high eight rebounds. Rhody's Tayra Melendez led all scorers with 17 points and had a team high seven rebounds. RICHMOND 81, MASSACHUSETTS 63 | RICHMOND HIGHLIGHTS | UMASS POSTGAME Rachael Bilney became the 19th Richmond player to notch 1,000 career points as Richmond defeated UMass, 81-63, Sunday. The Spiders improved to 13-13, 3-7 while the Minutewomen fell to 3-21, 1-8 overall. Bilney's 1,000th point came from a familiar (and special) source when twin sister Sam dished to her for a layup at the 17:17 mark in the second half. Jasmine Harris, who was Massachusetts' leading scorer, had 19 points for the Minutewomen. Courtney Webb scored a season-high 18 points and Lorreal Jones recorded her fifth double-double of the season for the Billikens.The loss dropped the Billikens to 10-15 overall and 4-6 in the A-10. Fordham improved to 18-7, 8-2. Samantha Clark had 14 points, eight rebounds and four blocks for the Rams; Arielle Collins scored 12 points; and Abigail Corning narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds, including seven offensive boards. The Billikens edged the Rams 43-40 on the boards - including a season-high-tying 17 offensive rebounds - and tied their season low with seven turnovers. |
