2011 A-10 Women's Basketball Championship - Quarterfinal Wrap-Up

GAME 5 - #1 XAVIER 71, #8 SAINT JOSEPH'S 55 LOWELL, Mass. - Top-seeded Xavier advances to the semifinals after taking down #8 Saint Joseph's, 71-55, in Saturday's first game at the 2011 Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship at The Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass. Xavier remains undefeated in conference play, sitting at 26-2 overall. The Hawks fall to 19-11 with the loss. The Musketeers registered four players in double figures. Amber Harris dropped 19 points on 6-12 shooting, while Ta'Shia Phillips recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. Special Jennings added 11 points and seven assists. Katie Kuester and Erin Shields led the Hawks with 17 and 10 points, respectively. Xavier will face the winner of game six between #4 Richmond and #5 Charlotte, Sunday, March 6 at noon.
Shannon McCallum led the offensive effort for the 49ers, dropping 21 points on 9-15 shooting. Defensively, Amanda Dowe got it done on the glass, grabbing 14 rebounds. Charlotte shot an impressive 57-percent from beyond the arc and outrebounded Richmond, 48-35. Richmond's Brittani Shells led all scorers with 23 points, while teammates Abby Oliver and Crystal Goring chipped in 15 and 13 points, respectively. The 49ers will advance to play top-seeded Xavier in the semifinals, Sunday at noon.
Qwedia Wallace shot a tremendous 71-percent (10-14) from the field, hitting 5-of-9 from three-point range, to finish with a game-high 27 points. Shey Peddy added 21 points on 7-8 shooting, while grabbing six boards and dishing three assists. The Owls shot 52-percent from the field overall, and were 9-19 from behind the arc. Two Bonnies finished in double figures as Megan Van Tatenhove and Armelia Horton scored 14 and 13 points, respectively. Temple will face the winner of game eight between #3 Duquesne and #6 Dayton on Sunday at 2:30PM. GAME 8 - #6 DAYTON 74, #3 DUQUESNE 66
Dayton shot 47-percent from long range, connecting on 9-of-19 three-pointers. The Flyers were led by Justine Raterman who finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Kristin Daugherty chipped in 18 points and eight rebounds. The Flyers' defense forced 26 turnovers, creating out 28 points off the miscues. The Dukes had three players in double figures; Orsi Szecsi led Duquesne with 20 points on 7-11 shooting. Dayton will face #2 Temple Sunday afternoon at 2:30.
