PHILADELPHIA - Eighth seeded George Washington opened the 2013 Buick Atlantic 10 Women's Basketball Championship with a 59-53 win over ninth seeded George Washington Friday afternoon at Michael J. Hagan '85 Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.

GW improves to 14-15 on the year and advances to take on top-seed Dayton (26-1) at  Noon. on Saturday.  Richmond drops to 16-15 on the season following the loss.

The Colonials had three players in double digits, paced by Danni Jackson's 13.  Megan Snipe had 12 points, while Shi-Heria Shipp had 10 points and Tara Booker tied for a game-high 12 rebounds.

Richmond got a game-high 17 points in addition to 12 rebounds from Rebecca Wann.    Kristina King had 16 points, while Samantha Bilney and Ryann Dannelly each had eight points in the loss. 

The GW offense made 22-of-50 shots on the afternoon and held Richmond to just 28.1 percent shooting for the game as the Spiders made just 18-of-64 attempts.
