Xavier 71, Bucknell 62
The Xavier women's basketball team held off Bucknell Saturday afternoon, 71-62, in its season opener at Cintas Center. The Musketeers were led by junior Shatyra Hawkes who tied her career high with 19 points. She drained a career-high seven field goals as she went 7-of-13 from the field, 3-of-5 from 3-point range as well as a perfect 2-for-2 from the free throw line.

St. Bonaventure 61, Binghamton 34
After trailing by as many as seven points in the early going, the St. Bonaventure women's basketball team recovered in a big way, outscoring Binghamton 51-14 over a 25-minute span en route to a convincing 61-34 season-opening victory on Saturday afternoon at the Reilly Center.

Massachusetts 83, Kent State 53
Senior co-captain Jasmine Watson’s 21 points led four scorers in double figures as the UMass women’s basketball team rolled to a 83-53 win in the season opener at the Mullins Center on Sunday afternoon. Watson logged her 1,000th point in the contest to become the 18th player in program history to achieve the milestone.

Charlotte 80, North Carolina Central 31
A solid all-around defensive effort by the Charlotte 49ers, which included holding North Carolina Central to 25.8 percent from the floor and forcing 28 turnovers, guided Charlotte to an 80-31 victory Saturday evening in the women's basketball season opener for both teams.

Marquette 73, Butler 62
An experienced Marquette team stayed just ahead of the Butler women's basketball team to beat the Bulldogs 73-62 on Saturday night. It was the season opener for both teams.


 

 

Dayton 92, DePaul 80
The University of Dayton defeated No. 25 DePaul 92-80 to win the Maggie Dixon Classic Saturday at McGrath-Phillips Arena. Freshman Amber Deane was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after scoring a career-high 27 points. Sophomores Ally Malott and Andrea Hoover were named to the All-Tournament Team.
