Notebook - Week 9

RICHMOND (10-7/4-0) went 2-0 on the week with a 3-2 win at VCU on Oct. 20 and a 1-0 shutout at #16 Massachusetts on Oct. 23. Sophomore midfielder Katelin Peterson (Escondido, Calif.) notched the game-winner over UMass to keep the Spiders undefeated in A-10 play. She ranks second on the squad with 11 goals.
   
SAINT JOSEPH’S (6-8/3-1) split on the week after a tough 2-1 double-overtime loss at La Salle on Oct. 23 but bounced back for a 3-1 win at West Chester on Oct. 25. Sophomore midfielder Theresa Testa (Media, Pa.) was named Co-Player of the Week after tallying a goal in each contest as well as an assist versus West Chester.

WEST CHESTER (8-9/3-2) captured a 2-1 win over Temple on Oct. 23 before falling 3-1 to Saint Joseph’s on Oct. 25. Freshman forward Melissa LeNoir (Bear, Del.) was named Rookie of the Week after scoring a goal in the TU win. Sophomore forward Alyssa Gallen (Glen Mills, Pa.) scored the game-winner versus TU and added a goal against SJU.
 
TEMPLE (6-11/2-2) fell 2-1 at West Chester on Oct. 23 but rebounded with a 1-0 shutout to La Salle on Oct. 25. Senior midfielder Kimmi Hanshue (Hummelstown, Pa.) scored her first career goal at West Chester while senior midfielder Charise Young (Harleysville, Pa.) assisted on two goals on the weekend.

LA SALLE (7-11/2-3) garnered a dramatic 2-1 double-overtime win against Saint Joseph’s on Oct. 23 before falling 1-0 at Temple on Oct. 25. Senior forward Kara Harpel (Lebanon, Pa.) notched both goals against SJU tying the game with 28 seconds left and then scoring the game-winner with three minutes left.

#16 MASSACHUSETTS (9-6/0-2) split on the weekend after a 1-0 shutout loss to Richmond on Oct. 23 and a 10-1 win at Ssaint Louis on Oct. 25. Junior forward Katie Kelly (Dedham, Mass.) posted a career-high eight points in the win, having a hand in six goals with two tallies and four assists. UMass scored its second most goals in school history and most since 1979 against the Billikens.

SAINT LOUIS (1-15/0-4) fell 10-1 to Massachusetts in its only game of the week. Freshman midfielder Lexie Lindblad (St. Louis, Mo.) scored her second goal of the season against the Minutewomen.
