Lock Haven Downs Richmond, 4-2, In First Semifinal Game

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Second Team All-Conference member Kristi Shepps scored two goals as Lock Haven defeated Richmond, 4-2, in the opening game of the 2010 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship.

Lock Haven scored first when Amy Hordendorf knocked in an unassisted goal of a rebound just after the 33 minute mark.

With the score locked at 1-0 at the half, both teams came out on the attack. Lock Haven scored again just 6:23 into the half when Kelly Harsh assisted teammate Leslie Ahern's shot off a penalty corner.

Richmond got on the board just over 10 minutes later when Dani Pycroft scored off Hannah Hess' assist on a penalty corner.

With Richmond within a goal, the Spiders initiated an all-out offensive attack, pulling their goalie throwing everything they had at The Haven. The last three goals of the game were scored in the final 2:00 of play.

The first by Lock Haven's Hordendorf, on a penalty stroke at 68:10, the second, unassisted by Richmond's Natalie Gallo at 69:27, and the third on an open net, by Lock Haven's Kristi Shepps at 69:45, bringing the final score to 4-2 in Lock Haven's favor.
