Richmond To Face Syracuse In NCAA First Round Game

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- After winning it's play-in game on the road against California, 2-0, the Richmond field hockey team earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament and will face No. 3 Syracuse on Saturday at Maryland.

Richmond is making its seventh NCAA Tournament appearance and will play former Spider coach Ange Bradley and Syracuse on Saturday at Maryland at 10:30 a.m.

Richmond's Katelin Peterson fulfilled her dream of returning to her home state to play a collegiate field hockey game, and did so in dramatic fashion, scoring both of the Spiders' two goals to lead the Spiders past California on Tuesday.

The Escondido, Calif. native, who ranks for on Richmond's career list for points, goals and assists, tallied her 15th goal of the season and 47th career goal just 12:09 into the game on an assist from Jackie Gyger.

Peterson added an insurance goal with 23:20 remaining on an assist from Christina Amorose.
