Ten A-10 Field Hockey Players Named to NFHCA All-Region Teams

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- Ten Atlantic 10 field hockey players were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) All-Region teams. Players from Massachusetts, Saint Joseph's and Temple represented the A-10 in two of the five regions. Seniors Alli Lokey and Ashley Bird of Temple, along with freshman Jen Wrublesky earned Midatlantic First-Team honors. Seniors Becky Letourneau and Erin O'Brien of Massachusetts were selected to the Northeastern First-Team. The five are now eligible for national All-America honors. Lokey ranked first in the A-10 in eight different statistical categories and was voted the Conference's Offensive Player of the Year. Lokey also earned A-10 Player of the Week four times this season. She ranked second in the nation for overall goals and points at the end of Temple's season. Lokey also ranked third in points per game, and fourth in goals per game. She was named to the NFHCA 2007 Senior All-Star team and earned A-10 All-Championship honors. The Bainbridge, Pa native is the first A-10 offensive player not from Richmond since 2001. Bird has been an anchor of Temple's defense for four years. Named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, she had three goals and two assists this season giving her a career high eight points. Bird has complied six goals and seven assists in her career. She was also named to the NFHCA 2007 Senior All-Star team. Bird is a three-time member of the NFHCA National Academic Team. Also receiving honors by the NFHCA were Temple juniors Erin Hanshue and Mary Catherine Kinneman. Both garnered Second Team All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors this season, with Hanshue posting a 5-4-0 record and a 1.68 goals against average while playing every minute in goal for the Owls. Kinneman started all twenty games, tallied four points and recorded a team-high three defensive saves.
Saint Joseph's Jen Wrublesky had a standout freshman season on Hawk Hill, leading the team in scoring with 10 goals, four assists, 24 points. Her efforts garnered All-Atlantic 10 First Team honors, as she was the only freshman on the First Team. Wrublesky was named the conference's Rookie of the Year in 2007 and led all conference rookies in scoring. She tied for second in the Atlantic 10 in goals and game-winning goals, as well. SJU's Katie Young was named to the Mid-Atlantic Second Team, playing in 80 games over the course of her four-year career, tying her for the most in program history. This season she was second on the squad with eight assists, a number that also ranked her third in the conference. She was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team for the second year in a row. Massachusetts' goalkeeper Becky Letourneau ended the season with a 10-7 record. Letourneau ranks sixth in country in goals against average (1.05) and ranks first in the A-10 in goals against average and shutouts with seven on the season. During the regular season, Letourneau went 6-1 against A-10 opponents and only allowed two goals in A-10 play. Northeast First Team selection Erin O'Brien of Massachusetts was also named First Team All-Atlantic 10 for the second straight season. O'Brien was the leader of the top defense in the A-10, ranking first in goals against average (0.95), shots allowed (8.0 per game), and shutouts (9). During the 2007 season, she played every minute of every game and started as a back in every game. Named to the Northeast Second Team was Massachusetts' back Kristina DoRosario, was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Tournament after helping lead UMass to its first title in six years. DoRosario was also named First Team All-Conference by the Atlantic 10. Joining DoRosario on the Northeast Second Team is UMass teammate Cher King. King, a sophomore, was named First Team All-Atlantic 10 and named to the Atlantic 10 All-Tournament team. She led the Minutewomen in goals (8), points (19), and shots (63) on the season.
