UMass Garners Top Seed For A-10 Lacrosse Championship

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Massachusetts women’s lacrosse finished a perfect 7-0 in conference play to secure the top seed for the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Lacrosse Championship. The seedings were finalized Sunday for next weekend’s championship. The four-team championship, which begins Friday, April 27 at 1:00 pm with the semifinals, will be played at Richmond’s Robins Stadium. The finals will be played Sunday, April 29 at 1:00 pm and will be televised on CBS Sports Network. The Minutewomen earned their second straight No. 1 seed for the championship with the perfect league record. UMass, which will be shooting for its fourth straight A-10 title, had just one blemish on its overall record, posting a 16-1 record. Duquesne captured the No. 2 seed with a 12-7 win over Richmond Sunday. Both teams tied at 5-2 in league play, but Sunday’s win gave the Dukes the head-to-head tiebreaker. DU was 12-5 overall and the Spiders were 9-7 overall. The two teams will play again Friday in the first semifinal at 1:00 pm. George Washington clinched the final championship seed Sunday with a 17-11 win over St. Bonaventure. The Colonials finished 4-3 in the A-10 and 10-6 overall and will face UMass in Friday’s second semifinal at 3:30 pm. The winner of the championship will advance to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Tournament play-in game.
