NEWPORT NEWS, Va.—Massachusetts’ Katie Ferris, Richmond’s Mary Flowers and Liz Walker of Duquesne were all selected for the Atlantic 10 Conference’s Offensive Player, Midfielder and Defensive Player of the Year awards in lacrosse the league announced Thursday. Amanda Kidder of Duquesne was also named Rookie of the Year while UMass coach Angela McMahon garnered Coach of the Year.

The five awards were released in conjunction with the First and Second Team All-Conference, the All-Rookie Team and the Academic All-Conference Team in preparation for the A-10 Championship, which begins Friday at Richmond’s Robins Stadium. All of the awards with the exception of Academic All-Conference were selected by the league’s eight head coaches. The Academic All-Conference Team was chosen by a vote of the A-10 lacrosse media relations directors.

Ferris ranked second in the league in goals with 52 and second in assists with 34, giving her the most points in the Atlantic 10 among all players with 86, an average of 5.73 per game. This includes four game-winners by the sophomore attacker from Carthage, N.Y.

Flowers ranked fifth in points and assists and sixth in goals this season. She led the league in both caused turnovers with 2.44 per game and ground balls with 3.06 per game. Both averages by the senior midfielder from Virginia Beach, Va., were well above the second place rankings.

Walker, a senior goalkeeper from Sewickley, Pa., ranked second in the league in goals against average (9.29) and save percentage (.513) while logging more minutes between the pipes than any other A-10 keeper.

Kidder, a freshman midfielder from Fairport, N.Y., ranked third at Duquesne in points, scoring 41 points on 27 goals and 14 assists. She posted two game-winners this season as well and was key in helping Duquesne clinch second place in the A-10 regular season.

McMahon led the Minutewomen to a perfect 7-0 mark in conference play and a nearly unblemished overall mark at 16-1. UMass currently ranks 16^th (IWLCA poll) and ninth (deBeer media poll) and will be trying for its third straight A-10 title this weekend.

The championship begins Friday with the semifinals at 1 and 3:30 p.m. The finals will be played Sunday at 1 p.m. and will air on live television on CBS Sports Network.
