Massachusetts To Face Top-Seeded Northwestern In First Round NCAA Action

    INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Massachusetts women's lacrosse team will face No. 1 and top-seeded Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament First Round on Sunday, May 10. The opening draw is slated for 1 PM.

    This will be the second meeting this season between the Atlantic 10 Champion Minutewomen (11-7) and the American Lacrosse Conference Champion Wildcats (19-0) this season. Tickets for the game at Lakeside Field will be $8 for adults and $5 for students. Live video streaming and live statistics will also be available.

    Northwestern won the earlier meeting on March 25 at McGuirk Stadium in Amherst, 22-5. Meghan Reddy led the Minutewomen with three goals in the game, while Hannah Nielsen had eight points (4 goals, 4 assists) to lead the Wildcats.

    This will also be the first NCAA meeting between UMass head coach Alexis Venechanos and associate head coach Acacia Walker against their former boss Kelly Amonte Hiller. The Wildcats have won four straight NCAA National Titles including two during Venechanos' tenure and three with Walker on the sidelines.

    UMass will be making its fourth-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament and first since the 1984 semifinals. UMass won the first-ever NCAA Women's Lacrosse National Title in 1982 and made subsequent appearances in the Semifinals in 1983 and 1984. All-time UMass is 4-4 in the NCAA Tournament.
