EVANSTON, Ill. - Northwestern's Katrina Dowd led all players with seven goals as the #1 ranked and top-seeded Wildcats defeated the UMass women's lacrosse team 23-6 on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field. UMass freshman goalie Katie Florence made 15 saves in the loss, while Meghan Reddy notched two goals.
With the win, Northwestern improves to 20-0 on the season, while UMass finishes the season with a 11-8 overall record. The NCAA berth was the first for the Minutewomen since the 1984 season. The Wildcats will face Princeton next Saturday in the NCAA Quarterfinals looking for their fifth consecutive NCAA Title.
For the game, Northwestern outshot UMass by a 44-to-18 margin and held a 23-to-8 advantage in draw controls. The Minutewomen also committed 17 turnovers to just 8 for the Wildcats.
