PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - UMass sophomore Jackie Lyons and freshman Riley Perry and seniors Ashley Wood of Duquesne and Jenna Martino from Saint Joseph's have been selected to the second-round tryouts for the 2009-10 U.S. Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team. The tryouts will resume on Aug. 1-2 at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. The group were part of 150 players who tried out at the Stars & Stripes Tournament over Memorial Day Weekend.

The U.S. women's national team program is currently gearing up for the Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup, which will be held from June 18-27 in the Czech Republic. UMass associate head coach coach Acacia Walker is a member of Team USA, while assistant coach Kristin Blanchette, senior Jackie Rosenzweig and junior Merritt Cosgrove will represent Team Ireland.

Lyons led UMass in 2009 with 71 points on 44 goals and 27 assists - just three points shy of the single-season mark in program history. Her seven game-winning goals led the league. She was honored as the Atlantic 10 Tournament MVP after helping the Minutewomen win the conference tournament title for a berth to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 25 years.

Perry started all 19 games of the season on defense with 16 groundballs, 12 draw controls and four caused turnovers. The rookie helped the UMass defense posted one of the best goals-against-averages in the Atlantic 10 allowing just 8.11 per game. The Minutewomen allowed 10-or-fewer goals on seven different occasions thanks in part to Riley's play in the back.

Wood, the 2009 Atlantic 10 women's lacrosse Midfielder of the Year, finished the regular season with career-highs in goals (54) and points (56), which was ninth in the A-10 in total points. The 2009 team captain and March 16th A-10 player of the week finished her Duquesne career with 139 goals, which is third in program history.

Martino, the new single-season SJU record holder of goals, points and shots, had a career year with 57 goals, 19 assists and 76 points, all team highs. She was also an Atlantic 10 First Team and A-10 All-Championship Team selection in addition to being captain and the team's Coaches' Award recipient.
