A-10 Rowing Championship Set For Saturday, April 16

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 16th annual Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship will take place on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J., on Saturday, April 16. Defending champion Rhode Island (53) captured its second A-10 Women's Rowing Championship last season defeating runner-up Massachusetts (40) by a 13-point margin. The Minutewomen and the Rams are the only schools to have claimed an A-10 title in women's rowing with UMass leading the way with 13 conference championships. URI has secured two A-10 titles with both championships coming in the last three years. Rhode Island is the defending champion in both the Varsity 8 (6:37.08) and Second Varsity 8 (6:46.06) events. Massachusetts took home the event title in the Varsity 4 last year crossing the finish line in a time of 7:44.05. The 2011 Championship begins at 8:00 am with trials of the Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4 events on the Cooper River. Finals will commence at approximately 11:20 am with the awards ceremony scheduled for 1:40 pm. Competing in this year's Atlantic 10 Championship are Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's and Temple.
