PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The 14th annual Atlantic 10 Women's Rowing Championship will take place on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J., on Saturday, Apr. 18.
Massachusetts had won 12 straight team titles - the longest Championship winning streak in any A-10 sport in league history until Rhode Island edged out UMass by a 15-point margin last season to capture its first-ever league crown. The Rams led the meet from start to finish and captured gold in two Varsity events - including the Varsity 8 and the Varsity 4 (8:24.2) - and took first-place in the Lightweight 4 (8:05.7).
Rhode Island's victory last year followed the closest finish in Conference history in 2007, when it fell to UMass by just a single point in team scoring, 45-44. The Rams return to the Championship this season under the leadership of reining A-10 Coach of the Year Shelagh Donohoe.
The Championship begins at 8:00am with trials on Saturday on the Cooper River in Pennsauken, N.J. Finals will commence at approximately 11:50am. Competing in this year's Atlantic 10 Championship are Dayton, Duquesne, Fordham, George Washington, La Salle, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's and Temple.
